2nd-Jan-2007 11:10 pm - Crudo Bowl and movies
Every year since I was about 14, I have been playing the crudo bowl (hangover bowl) on January 1st. Since I don't drink I am not hungover, but some of the people are. We played and my team was winning 6-3 when Manuel dislocated his shoulder. Today, I can't move normally because I am really banged up. The game was really fun, I have some bruises. One of the touchdowns was a diving catch after the ball tipped Memo, it felt pretty good, I really love american football.

At night, Cesar, Alejandro, Silvia, Lencho and Alejandro II came and we watched "The Bridge on the River Kwai", a 1957 David Lean film with a great performance from Alec Guiness. What a marvelous movie, great acting and the three hours fly by as fast as the three hours of playing sports past. I love the character portrayed by Alec Guiness, I have a lot of respect for character's that have principles before all. What a movie!

After that Lencho, Alejandro II, Silvia and Alejandro left and Cesar and I watched "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?", a 1966 movie from Mike Nichols ("The Graduate"). The movie was great too. Funny to see such different films. One takes place in five hours on a house with only four characters, the other a movie with many characters and different places. This movie would be very interesting to watch again, mainly because the movie has so much dialogue and there is so much lying going on that trying to catch it once is hard. I have to say, I am surprised that a movie with no plot at sight could go on for over two hours and hold the audience and then keep them thinking. I enjoyed it, although I have to admit I liked Kwai better.

Something's-wrong-with-Belichick note: Trailing 3-0, the Flying Elvii faced fourth-and-7 on the Miami 42 and Yoda ordered a punt.
Doctor, would you examine Mr. Belichick please? Belichick punts in the
Maroon Zone less than any NFL coach, this being one reason for his
success. The punt traveled a paltry 19 yards as the football gods
showed their displeasure.
